BETASEED INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES SEED PROCESSING EXPANSION

• For immediate release

April 8, 2014 – Shakopee, MN – Betaseed, Incorporated today updated its $40 million expansion at its Tangent, Oregon location. A key initiative started in 2012, Betaseed Incorporated is expanding its sugarbeet seed processing capabilities through an updated and upgraded facility scheduled for completion in 2016.

Betaseed started processing seed at the Tangent, OR location with one building allocated to seed processing and another to warehousing. Over the past 40 years, the facility has been upgraded and expanded to more than seven buildings and a computerized manufacturing system operated by over 50 full-time employees. The current project will expand nearly all functional areas of the supply chain and bring critical seed processing operations under one roof. With a design emphasis on LEAN manufacturing principles, the facility will have, for the first time, a more efficient start-to-finish layout allowing for higher operating efficiencies and increased quality control.

“This significant initiative further demonstrates Betaseed Incorporated’s commitment to sugarbeet growers across North America, the entire industry, and the local community in Oregon,” said President, John Enright. “The expansion not only allows us to lead the industry in seed processing technology but also provides a higher level of safety for our production staff and visitors.”

The project includes improvements to receiving, bare seed processing, treatments and coatings, and finished goods. Estimated completion date is January 2016, just in time to start preparing seed for the 2016 growing season.

“This extensive project has been scheduled around our seed processing and delivery schedule in order to remain customer focused, and to make sure that customers receive their seed orders at the expected times,” said Bryan Meier, Director of Operations. “In addition to increased seed processing capabilities our laboratory space has increased supporting our even stronger desire to only provide the highest quality sugarbeet seed to customers.”
