Betaseed awarded scholarships totaling $3,000 to recipients Matthew Geiger, Lincoln Hagg, and Sophia Wendland in each of the three Michigan Sugar Company growing districts. Betaseed has awarded these scholarships since 2010 as a thank you to the communities and growers for their loyalty and partnership. Read more about this year’s recipients:
Matthew Geiger is a 2026 Graduate of Harbor Beach High School. He is the son of Kurt and Denise Geiger. In the fall, Matt will be attending Ferris State University for Heavy Equipment Technology. Matt’s favorite subject in High School was Math. In his time outside of school, Matt enjoys farming and hunting. Matt was also a team member of the 2025 MHSAA Division 8 State Football Champions, catching a touchdown pass in the final game helping Harbor Beach to their record setting 14-0 season.
Lincoln Haag is a 2026 graduate of Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School. He is the son of Jason Haag and Carrie Enos. In the fall, Lincoln will be attending Michigan State University studying Agribusiness and Crop and Soil Sciences. Lincoln’s favorite class in High School was his college level Math Class. In his time outside of school, Lincoln enjoys contributing on the farm, recently spending time refining his skills in the self-propelled sprayer. Lincoln also likes to run. He recently completed a 31-mile race from Caseville to Port Austin and back.
Sophia Wendland is a 2026 graduate of Valley Lutheran High School. Sophia is the daughter of Mark and Amy Wendland. In the fall, Sophia will be attending Delta College with intentions to transfer to SVSU to study Nursing. Sophia’s favorite class in school was her Faith Class in which they focused time on their Prayer Journals and various Bible Readings. In her time outside of school, Sophia enjoys spending time with her friends, especially at the beach; baking and cooking, and hunting in the fall. Sophia pitches in on the farm when she can and takes pride in maintaining the yard at the shop.
